Gurugram: In a major push towards urban beautification and monsoon preparedness, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has intensified large-scale green belt reclamation works across Gurugram, focusing on improving greenery, stormwater drainage and groundwater recharge.
As part of the citywide initiative, GMDA is undertaking extensive removal of construction and demolition (C&D) waste, malba, debris and excess soil spread across nearly 45 kilometres of major road stretches. The move aims to reclaim neglected public spaces while enhancing the city’s environmental sustainability.
In a strategic effort to tackle waterlogging during the monsoon season, green belts at several locations are being lowered and redesigned as “green drains” to facilitate faster stormwater drainage and improve groundwater recharge. Officials said the initiative will not only reduce flooding risks but also support long-term ecological balance in the city.
The large-scale operations are currently underway across several key corridors, including Signature Chowk to Atul Kataria Chowk, Lotus Valley School Road, Gurugram University Road, Old Railway Road, Subhash Chowk to Millennium City Centre, Subhash Chowk to Hero Honda Chowk, the IFFCO Chowk to SPR corridor, and roads in Sectors 44 and 45.

“GMDA is carrying out extensive citywide operations for improvement of the green environment across Gurugram. With dedicated manpower and machinery deployed on-ground, the works are being undertaken in a mission mode to enhance the overall urban environment and strengthen preparedness during the monsoon season,” said P. C. Meena, Chief Executive Officer, GMDA.
To ensure swift execution, more than 100 workers along with over 20 JCB machines and field equipment have been deployed for round-the-clock operations. Teams are actively engaged in clearing accumulated debris, silt and dumped construction material from green belts.
Simultaneously, plantation and landscaping activities are being undertaken at various locations, including Rajiv Chowk to Signature Tower Chowk, Atul Kataria Chowk, IFFCO Chowk to Millennium City Centre and Sectors 89 and 90.
Additionally, over 200 damaged jersey barriers and concrete obstructions have been removed from major roads to improve traffic flow and road safety, reinforcing GMDA’s broader mission to make Gurugram greener, cleaner and monsoon-ready.
