GMDA strengthens ties with councillors, unveils Rs 386-crore road and mobility push for Gurugram

Gurugram: In a bid to strengthen coordination between urban authorities and elected representatives, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) on Tuesday held a high-level meeting with city councillors to review ongoing and upcoming infrastructure projects across Gurugram.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) P.C. Meena emphasised collaborative governance, calling for closer coordination between councillors and GMDA officials to address civic concerns more effectively.

During the meeting, Meena outlined GMDA’s ambitious infrastructure roadmap, stating that the authority is pursuing major investments in roads, drainage, mobility, green infrastructure and social amenities to improve urban living standards in Gurugram.

“Public representatives and GMDA officers will work together as a unified team for the development of Gurugram in the public interest,” the CEO said, while encouraging councillors to share regular feedback and undertake joint field visits with officials in their wards to ensure timely resolution of civic issues.

A major focus of the discussion was road infrastructure and mobility enhancement. GMDA informed councillors that 51 road infrastructure projects worth approximately ₹386 crore have received administrative approval to strengthen connectivity and create a seamless road network across the city. Of these, 12 projects have already been awarded, while 39 are currently under the allotment process.

The authority also unveiled plans for five elevated corridors and seven flyovers and underpasses aimed at developing signal-free corridors to reduce congestion and travel time. Key stretches identified for mobility interventions include NH-48 to Vatika Chowk, Rajiv Chowk to Atul Kataria Chowk, Mahavir Chowk to IFFCO Chowk and Atul Kataria Chowk to Dwarka Expressway. Special repairs of master roads, service road development and green belt improvements are also underway.

Ahead of the monsoon season, councillors were briefed on drainage strengthening and desilting works across the city. GMDA officials said over 200 personnel have been deployed for intensive desilting operations, while projects such as Leg-4 Drain, Narsinghpur Drain and Tau Devi Lal Stadium Drain are progressing.

To tackle recurring waterlogging, GMDA proposed developing 20–25 retention ponds as a long-term stormwater management measure. Efforts to reclaim green belts, clear construction debris and curb illegal dumping through CCTV surveillance were also discussed.

The meeting also highlighted plans to upgrade Tau Devi Lal Stadium, develop a sports belt in Sector 15 and establish a library-cum-amphitheatre at Biodiversity Park, Sector 52A.
