Gurugram intensifies monsoon preparedness with major drainage and infrastructure push

Gurugram: Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has accelerated large-scale drainage strengthening and infrastructure works across Gurugram ahead of the upcoming monsoon season, with senior officials directing departments to ensure zero tolerance towards waterlogging and civic disruptions.

The directions were issued during a high-level review meeting chaired by Additional Chief Secretary, Town and Country Planning Department, Anurag Agarwal. Senior officials, including GMDA Chief Executive Officer P. C. Meena, reviewed the status of ongoing infrastructure projects and monsoon preparedness measures being implemented across the city.

During the meeting, the ACS stressed the need for urgent strengthening of drainage infrastructure and directed officials to closely monitor all vulnerable areas and identified waterlogging hotspots. He instructed departments to expedite preventive measures to ensure smooth discharge of storm water during heavy rainfall.

Officials informed that multiple teams have already been deployed across the city and large-scale desilting operations are underway along major roads and sectors. Construction of road gullies and improvement of surface drainage connectivity are also being carried out to facilitate seamless flow of rainwater into the master storm water drainage network.

Massive removal of silt, debris, malba, and horticulture waste from roadsides, green belts, and drainage channels is also being undertaken to prevent blockages during the rainy season. Authorities said the work is being monitored daily to ensure timely completion.

Several major drainage projects are currently being executed on a priority basis. These include the construction of the Leg-4 drain from Vatika Chowk to NH-48 and new storm water drainage networks in Sectors 68-75, 76-80, and 112-115. Work is also progressing on a master storm water drain connecting Narsinghpur to the Badshahpur Drain to tackle recurring flooding in the area.

Apart from drainage improvements, GMDA is also carrying out integrated upgradation of master roads, including development of footpaths, cycle tracks, service roads, and green belts to improve urban mobility and reduce traffic congestion.

The ACS also visited the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), where he reviewed smart surveillance systems, traffic monitoring technologies, and real-time civic management solutions aimed at improving urban services across Gurugram.
