Gurugram: The Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG) on Monday launched a citywide demolition drive against illegal and unauthorized constructions, demolishing 31 structures on the very first day of a month-long enforcement campaign aimed at ensuring compliance with Supreme Court directives.
Acting on the instructions of MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya, enforcement teams were simultaneously deployed across all municipal zones to target identified illegal constructions and encroachments. The campaign, which will continue throughout August, also focused on clearing public roads, streets and civic spaces from unauthorized occupation.
According to MCG officials, special enforcement teams headed by Joint Commissioners have been constituted in all zones and equipped with JCBs and other machinery required for demolition operations. Teams reached designated locations early Monday and carried out coordinated action in multiple parts of the city.
The demolition drive covered areas including DPG Colony in Sector 34, Ryan Enclave in Bhondsi, Ashok Vihar-II, Krishna Colony, Sector 69, the Ayudh Depot restricted zone and Bhimgarh Kheri, among others. Zone-wise action included demolition of one structure in Zone-1, four each in Zones 2 and 3, three in Zone-4, five each in Zones 5 and 6, and nine structures in Zone-7.
To maintain law and order during the operation, police personnel and duty magistrates were deployed alongside enforcement teams at all sites.
Apart from demolishing unauthorized structures, MCG teams also removed encroachments from roads, streets and public spaces to improve accessibility and ensure smoother movement for residents.
MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said the civic body would adopt a zero-tolerance approach toward illegal construction.
“Unauthorized and illegal constructions will not be accepted at any level in Gurugram. In compliance with the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court, large-scale enforcement action has been initiated across all zones,” Dahiya said.
He added that the objective of the campaign is not only to remove illegal structures but also to reclaim public land and civic spaces for planned urban development.
“The drive will continue throughout the month, and strict action will be taken against all violations in accordance with the law,” he said.
