Gurugram : In a major initiative aimed at improving urban infrastructure and civic amenities, Haryana Chief Minister’s Chief Principal Secretary Rajesh Khullar has directed authorities to launch a “30-Day Challenge” for the comprehensive improvement of 100 roads across Gurugram.
The directions were issued during a high-level review meeting held in Gurugram with officials of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG), and Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP).
Under the campaign, authorities will identify 100 roads currently in poor condition and upgrade them by November 7. The selected roads, each measuring at least 500 metres in length, will undergo proper recarpeting, end-to-end pavement development, lane marking, installation of streetlights, signage, footpaths, beautification works, and removal of encroachments and garbage.
To enhance transparency and accountability, information boards carrying QR codes will be installed at each identified road. Citizens will be able to access details regarding the project, responsible department and officers, and timelines for commencement and completion of work through the QR code.
Khullar also directed the launch of a “24-Hour Challenge” campaign under which citizens can report civic issues such as large garbage dumps, potholes, sewer overflows, malfunctioning streetlights, and tree pruning requirements. Complaints will be addressed within 24, 48, or 72 hours depending on their nature. An online platform will allow residents to upload photographs and location details, while providing their name and mobile number will remain optional.
In another significant initiative, the city will develop 10 iconic roads with enhanced civic management, designated smoking zones, strict enforcement against violations, online fine collection, wheelchair facilities, and public information boards. Penalties will also be imposed for spitting and littering in public places within MCG areas.
Khullar further announced the “Hamara 500 Metre Area” campaign to encourage participation from RWAs, schools, market associations, and local organisations in maintaining cleanliness and civic standards in their surrounding areas.
A weekly scorecard on the progress of these initiatives will be jointly published every Saturday, reinforcing transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in Gurugram’s urban transformation efforts.
