Gurugram : Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice Surya Kant on Sunday inaugurated the state-of-the-art Tower of Justice judicial complex in Gurugram, describing it as a symbol of Haryana’s commitment to strengthening judicial infrastructure and improving access to justice.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal, Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State Rao Inderjit Singh, judges of the Supreme Court and Punjab & Haryana High Court, and senior judicial officers.
During the event, the CJI also virtually laid the foundation stones of new judicial complexes at Tauru and Punhana in Nuh district.
Recalling that he had laid the foundation stone of the project in January 2017 while serving as a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice Surya Kant said Gurugram’s rapid transformation into a major business and investment hub has led to a significant rise in legal disputes.
He noted that local courts are currently handling over 24,000 civil disputes, nearly 1,000 commercial cases and more than one lakh cases under the Negotiable Instruments (NI) Act.
“The Tower of Justice is not merely a modern building; it is a means of making access to justice more effective and efficient,” the CJI said. He added that additional courtrooms and modern facilities would help speed up case disposal while ensuring adherence to constitutional values.
The complex is equipped with video conferencing facilities, a modern record management system and a proposed International Arbitration Centre under the supervision of the High Court.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini termed the Tower of Justice a symbol of the dignity of the Constitution and the judiciary. He said that alongside economic development, a transparent, accessible and time-bound justice delivery system is essential for achieving the vision of a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the new complex houses 55 modern courtrooms, compared to 45 in the previous facility, and includes a mediation centre, bar library, bank and post office.
Union Minister Manohar Lal said the project would strengthen public confidence in the justice system by providing world-class infrastructure for judges, lawyers and litigants.
Arjun Ram Meghwal described the complex as an example of successful coordination between the judiciary and the executive, while Rao Inderjit Singh said it reflected ongoing judicial reforms aimed at ensuring timely and affordable justice.
Spread across nearly seven acres, the Tower of Justice is among the largest judicial complexes in North India and is expected to significantly enhance Gurugram’s judicial capacity while improving services for litigants and legal professionals.
