Gurugram : Continuing its mission to make the city encroachment-free, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) on Wednesday carried out an extensive anti-encroachment operation across key road corridors, reclaiming nearly 13 km of government land and restoring large stretches of Right of Way (ROW) for public use.
The third day of the city-wide enforcement campaign covered major stretches including Vatika Chowk–Ghata Road, Vatika Chowk–NH-48, Golf Course Extension Road and several sector-dividing roads. The drive was conducted under the supervision of GMDA CEO P.C. Meena and led by District Town Planner (DTP) R.S. Batth.
According to GMDA officials, five enforcement teams were deployed along the 8-km Vatika Chowk–Ghata stretch, where around 75 illegal structures were demolished. The action resulted in the recovery of nearly 150 metres of ROW. The removed encroachments included 20 carts, 20 Banjara shops, 15 jhuggi shops, 15 nurseries and other unauthorized structures occupying public land.
On the Vatika Chowk–NH-48 corridor, another five teams cleared encroachments spread across approximately 5 km. Around 35 illegal structures, including building-material shops, tin-shed dhabas, temporary shops, jhuggis and kabadi shops, were removed, reclaiming an additional 150 metres of ROW.
In a joint operation with the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), teams also removed nearly 30 illegal carts and two Banjara shops from locations such as Sohna Road (Tikri Road) and Tulip Chowk.
The campaign further extended to sector-dividing roads between Sectors 55/56, 56/61, 57/62, 50/65, 49/66, 72/69, 71/70, 73/75 and 74A/75A. Officials said the operation also helped reclaim nearly 150 acres of green belt land reserved for public infrastructure and environmental purposes.
GMDA officials said the campaign will continue in mission mode to reclaim public land, restore road space and prevent fresh encroachments across the city.
