Haryana waives water bill surcharge in Gurugram, Makes meters mandatory by May 31

Gurugram : In a major relief to residents, the Haryana government has announced a complete waiver of surcharge (interest) on pending water bills in areas under the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG).

The move is aimed at easing the financial burden on consumers while improving water management systems across the city.

According to the official notification, the benefit of surcharge waiver will be available only to those households that have installed water meters. Consumers without meters will not be eligible for this scheme, making meter installation a key requirement to avail the scheme.

The government has also issued strict instructions mandating all residents in MCG areas, including colonies and villages, to install water meters by May 31, 2026.

Authorities have warned that failure to comply with the deadline may lead to disconnection of water supply connections.
Officials say the initiative is part of a broader strategy to promote responsible water usage, ensure accurate billing, and reduce revenue losses caused by unmetered consumption.

By encouraging metered connections, the government aims to bring greater transparency and efficiency to the water supply system.

Civic authorities are expected to intensify awareness campaigns and streamline the meter installation process in the coming weeks to help residents meet the deadline.

Consumers are advised to act promptly to avoid penalties and service disruptions.
This policy is being seen as a balanced step—offering immediate financial relief while enforcing long-term discipline in water consumption and billing practices.
