Gurugram: The process of acquiring private land for the ambitious Gurugram Metro project has gained momentum, with a key meeting of the Land Purchase Committee (LPC) held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar.
The LPC has been constituted under the Haryana government’s recently notified policy for acquisition of private land through mutual consent. The meeting was attended by all committee members and their representatives. Officials from Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) made a detailed presentation outlining the land requirements for the metro project and the major procedures involved in the acquisition process.
During the meeting, DC Ajay Kumar directed the Land Acquisition Officer (LAO) to prioritise and complete the joint site verification process for the land identified for Metro Corridor-01 as well as the proposed depot area, strictly in accordance with the notified policy. Emphasising timely execution, the DC said that expediting verification would be crucial to keeping the project on schedule.
The LAO informed the committee that the joint inspection and ownership verification process could take approximately one week. In view of this timeline, it was decided that the next meeting of the Land Purchase Committee would be convened on February 11 to review progress and take further decisions.
The meeting also discussed the legal framework for land acquisition. It was clarified that notifications for the land to be acquired would be issued in compliance with the provisions of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RFCTLARR) Act, 2013.
Additionally, the Deputy Commissioner directed GMRL officials to submit details related to land acquisition for the Corridor-02 package at the earliest. This, he said, would enable the administration to issue notifications for both Corridor-01 and Corridor-02 packages simultaneously, ensuring better coordination and efficiency.
GMRL officials assured the committee that the required land details would be provided shortly. The accelerated steps signal the administration’s intent to fast-track land acquisition, a critical component for the timely implementation of the Gurugram Metro project.
