RRTS project gets green signal: Sarai Kale Khan–Bawal corridor approved

Gurugram: The ambitious Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) project has received a major boost as the Sarai Kale Khan to Bawal corridor has been granted approval in its first phase.

The clearance marks a significant milestone for improving high-speed regional connectivity between Delhi and southern Haryana, promising faster, safer, and more efficient travel for thousands of daily commuters.

The approval has been granted following sustained efforts by Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh, who has been consistently advocating for the extension of the RRTS network to benefit the Gurugram–Rewari–Bawal region.

Former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar formally communicated the approval through a letter addressed to Rao Inderjit Singh, confirming that the project has received the green signal at the government level.

According to official information, the first phase of the RRTS corridor will run from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Bawal in Haryana. This stretch is expected to significantly reduce travel time, ease traffic congestion on national highways, and provide a modern public transport alternative for office-goers, students, and business travelers.

Sources indicate that planning for the extension of the RRTS corridor beyond Bawal will be taken up in the next phase. The phased approach will allow authorities to assess operational efficiency and commuter response before moving ahead with further expansion.

The RRTS project is part of a larger vision to develop world-class regional transport infrastructure, similar to metro systems but designed for longer distances and higher speeds. Once operational, trains on the RRTS corridor are expected to run at speeds of up to 160–180 kmph, dramatically cutting down intercity travel time.

Local residents, industry stakeholders, and daily commuters have welcomed the approval, calling it a game-changer for economic growth, employment opportunities, and real estate development in the region.

“The Sarai Kale Khan–Bawal RRTS corridor is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening Delhi-NCR’s integrated transport network and supporting sustainable urban development,” Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh said.
