Gurugram to offer free door-to-door garbage collection, GPS monitoring to ensure transparency

Gurugram : The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has clarified that residents will not be charged any fee for door-to-door garbage collection, and that the entire system will be made transparent through GPS-based and online monitoring.

MCG Mayor Raj Rani Malhotra said garbage collection vehicles will reach every street and household and operate strictly as per prescribed norms.

“No resident of Gurugram will be asked to pay any kind of fee for garbage collection. This service will be completely free,” the Mayor said during a review meeting.

The meeting was attended by Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya, Additional Municipal Commissioner Ravindra Yadav, Executive Engineer Sunder Sheoran, councillors, and representatives of agencies involved in door-to-door garbage collection.

Officials informed that all garbage collection vehicles will be equipped with GPS tracking systems to closely monitor their movement and daily operations. An online monitoring platform is also being developed, which will allow ward councillors to track the functioning of garbage collection vehicles in their respective areas.

Clear instructions were issued that waste collected from households must be dumped only at designated secondary garbage points. “Any deviation from the approved disposal points will invite strict action against both the concerned agency and responsible officials,” the Mayor said. Joint Commissioners have been directed to ensure strict compliance within their zones.

To strengthen sanitation operations, four tractor-trolleys are being provided at the ward level, while three JCB machines will be deployed at the zonal level. The roster for JCB deployment will be prepared by Joint Commissioners to ensure optimal use.

Mayor Malhotra said the corporation’s aim is to provide a clean and healthy environment to every citizen. “We are making the door-to-door garbage collection system fully organized, transparent and accountable to prevent waste from being dumped in the open,” she said.

Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya warned that negligence in sanitation work would not be tolerated. “Through technology-based monitoring, clear accountability and strict enforcement, we are making waste management more effective. This will improve cleanliness and also increase public awareness about hygiene,” he said.
