Rao Narbir Singh targets Rao Inderjit Singh, recalls 1987 assembly defeat

Gurugram: Haryana Cabinet Minister Rao Narbir Singh on Sunday took a sharp political dig at Union Minister of State Rao Inderjit Singh, recalling that his own political career began after defeating Inderjit Singh in the 1987 Jatusana Assembly elections.

Addressing a press conference here in Gurugram, Rao Narbir was responding to recent remarks made by Rao Inderjit regarding the 2009 elections. While countering those statements, Rao Narbir revisited their long-standing political rivalry, which has frequently surfaced in public discourse over the years.

Rao Narbir said that in 1987, when he was around 26 years old, he entered active politics by defeating Rao Inderjit Singh from the Jatusana Assembly seat.

He noted that Jatusana was widely regarded as Rao Inderjit’s political stronghold at the time, making the defeat particularly significant. Following that victory, Rao Narbir became Haryana’s youngest Home Minister in the then Devi Lal-led government.

Now serving as a Cabinet Minister in the Nayab Singh Saini-led Haryana government, Rao Narbir Singh and BJP leader Rao Inderjit Singh have often been engaged in verbal sparring, reflecting the enduring political rivalry between the two leaders from the Ahirwal region.

Taking a sarcastic tone, Rao Narbir remarked that Rao Inderjit may have forgotten events due to his age, but should at least remember more recent political developments. “If he has forgotten the past, he should at least remember the present,” the minister said.

The remarks come amid renewed political activity in Haryana as leaders sharpen their rhetoric ahead of upcoming political engagements. The exchange once again highlights the long-standing personal and political rivalry between two of the region’s most prominent leaders.
