Gurugram: The Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) has successfully carried out the scientific disposal of nearly 1.15 lakh tonnes of legacy waste lying across its jurisdiction, marking a major step towards improving environmental conditions and solid waste management in the area.
According to civic officials, old garbage accumulated at the Sector-8 dumping site and in Garhi village has now been fully processed using scientific methods. The Corporation has also started segregating fresh waste simultaneously at these sites to prevent the recurrence of dumping and to improve overall waste management.
Continuous monitoring through CCTV cameras and the active deployment of security personnel at the dumping sites ensured transparency and safety throughout the process. The Municipal Commissioner appealed to residents to support cleanliness efforts by keeping the municipal area clean.
Citizens were urged to segregate wet and dry waste at the household level before handing it over to waste collection vehicles, which would help streamline the waste disposal process.
At the IMT Sector-8 site, legacy waste was spread over around seven acres of land. Of this, waste from approximately four acres has been cleared, while the dumping station spread over one acre in Garhi village has been completely vacated, freeing up valuable land. The project reflects the Municipal Corporation’s sustained efforts towards environmental protection and cleanliness.
Executive Engineer (XEN) Nijesh Kumar of the Swachh Bharat Mission stated that the legacy waste was processed strictly in accordance with government guidelines. Two agencies were engaged for the task.
Waste materials such as plastic, metal and organic waste were segregated during processing. Organic waste was converted into fertile soil, commonly referred to as “good earth,” which has been used for landfilling purposes.
Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) generated from the waste was sent to various paper mills across the state. The Municipal Corporation obtained certificates from these paper mills, ensuring transparency and accountability in the entire waste disposal process.
The Municipal Corporation officers said it remains committed to making the Manesar municipal area cleaner and more environmentally sustainable through continued efforts in scientific waste management.
