Gurugram: In a coordinated effort to address the persistent problem of waterlogging at the Bajghera underpass, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Public Works Department (PWD) have finalised a comprehensive action plan aimed at improving stormwater management and ensuring smoother traffic movement during the monsoon.
The decision was taken during a joint meeting of officials from the three agencies, where a series of engineering interventions were identified and responsibilities assigned for their timely execution before the next spell of heavy rainfall.
Taking suo motu cognisance of the recurring waterlogging issue and the inconvenience caused to commuters, GMDA Chief Executive Officer P.C. Meena directed officials to work out a long-term solution through coordinated efforts involving NHAI, under whose jurisdiction the underpass falls, and PWD (B&R), which owns the adjoining road network. Following the directive, officers from all three agencies conducted a site inspection and prepared a joint action plan.
As part of the plan, NHAI will construct tabletop structures on the approach roads to regulate the flow of stormwater towards the underpass during heavy rainfall. The agency will also inspect the existing sump wells and pumping infrastructure to assess their operational efficiency and undertake necessary repairs or upgrades to enhance drainage capacity.

PWD (B&R) has been assigned the task of constructing surface drains to intercept rainwater flowing towards the underpass. These drains will be linked to GMDA’s Leg-1 master drain, enabling faster discharge of stormwater into the city’s primary drainage network and reducing the likelihood of water accumulation.
Officials said the three agencies would maintain close coordination and jointly monitor the progress of the works to ensure timely completion. The intervention is expected to significantly improve drainage conditions at one of Gurugram’s most vulnerable locations during the monsoon season.
