Gurugram : In a major step towards making Gurugram encroachment-free, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is developing a dedicated Anti-Encroachment Portal and Mobile Application that will allow citizens to directly report encroachments across the city using geo-tagged and time-stamped photographs.
The announcement was made by GMDA Chief Executive Officer P.C. Meena during a high-level review meeting with senior officials, where discussions focused on encroachment control, protection of green spaces, infrastructure maintenance and city beautification.
According to GMDA officials, the proposed platform will enable residents to upload details of encroachment sites along with location-specific photographs, creating a participatory mechanism for identifying illegal occupations on public land. The information submitted by citizens will be verified by concerned officers, following which enforcement action will be initiated against violators.
“The application will strengthen GMDA’s anti-encroachment drive by involving citizens directly in monitoring public spaces and reporting violations,” officials said.
Taking a strict stance on the issue, Meena directed officials to intensify enforcement against encroachments along green belts and ensure continuous monitoring to prevent re-encroachment. He instructed departments to deploy dedicated patrolling teams for regular inspections of GMDA-managed land and public spaces.
The CEO also stressed the need for systematic development and maintenance of green belts, roundabouts and traffic islands across the city. He directed officials to undertake extensive plantation drives in a phased manner while ensuring long-term upkeep of landscaped areas.
Emphasising accountability, Meena instructed all Executive Engineers to take ownership of infrastructure within their respective jurisdictions, including roads, footpaths, central verges and green belts.
He called for regular field inspections and proactive monitoring to identify infrastructure deficiencies, encroachments and maintenance issues at an early stage, ensuring prompt corrective action.
The meeting underscored GMDA’s continued efforts to safeguard public land, improve urban infrastructure, preserve green spaces and enhance the overall aesthetic appeal of Gurugram through stricter enforcement and better maintenance practices.
