Fortis Manesar Launches Region’s First da Vinci Xi Robotic Surgical System

Gurugram: Fortis Hospital, Manesar has unveiled the region’s first da Vinci Xi robotic surgical system, marking a significant advancement in access to cutting-edge, minimally invasive surgery in southern Haryana.

With this launch, Fortis Manesar joins a select group of hospitals in India offering next-generation robotic surgery across specialties including oncology, urology, gynaecology and general surgery.

The state-of-the-art robotic platform was inaugurated in the presence of senior Fortis leadership, clinicians and community stakeholders. The installation is expected to benefit patients from Manesar and neighbouring districts, who earlier had to travel to metro cities for advanced robotic procedures.

The da Vinci Xi system provides surgeons with high-definition 3D vision, tremor filtration and wristed instruments with 540-degree articulation, allowing complex surgeries to be performed through small incisions with exceptional precision.

This results in reduced blood loss, fewer complications, less post-operative pain, faster recovery and shorter hospital stays.

Doctors at Fortis Manesar highlighted the clinical impact of robotic surgery by citing a recent case of a 23-year-old woman with cancer of the lower intestine. Using the da Vinci Xi system, surgeons were able to precisely remove the tumour while preserving the natural bowel passage, avoiding a permanent colostomy. The patient recovered well and regained normal bowel function, underscoring the life-changing potential of robotic technology.

Dr Vinay Samuel Gaikwad, Director – Surgical Oncology, said robotic surgery is transforming cancer care by enabling precise operations in confined anatomical spaces while protecting vital structures. Dr Ruchir Maheshwari, Director – Urology & Renal Transplant, noted that robot-assisted surgery is now the global standard for many urological procedures and will allow patients in the region to access world-class care closer to home.

Dr Nisha Aggarwal, Director – Obstetrics & Gynaecology, said robotic surgery offers women safer procedures with faster recovery, while Dr Rakesh Kumar, Additional Director – General Surgery, called the da Vinci Xi a major leap in surgical excellence.

Abhijit Singh, Facility Director, said the launch reflects Fortis’ commitment to bringing advanced healthcare technologies to emerging growth corridors. With this milestone, robotic surgery is now accessible to patients across southern Haryana, reinforcing Fortis’ vision of delivering safer surgeries and better outcomes closer to home.
