Gurugram : Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday directed officials to accelerate major infrastructure projects in Gurugram and ensure that civic amenities and public infrastructure are developed in line with the city’s growing global stature.
Chairing a high-level review meeting in Gurugram, the Chief Minister emphasized that the city has emerged as a major global business and investment destination and therefore requires world-class road networks, water supply systems, sanitation facilities and sewerage infrastructure.
During the meeting, Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) Chief Executive Officer P.C. Meena presented updates on several key mobility projects aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity across the city.
Among the flagship projects reviewed was the upgradation of the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR). Under Phase-I, GMDA plans to construct a 4.2-km, eight-lane signal-free elevated corridor between Vatika Chowk and NH-48, along with service roads and ramps at major intersections. Phase-II includes a grade-separated interchange at Vatika Chowk, while Phase-III proposes an 8.5-km elevated corridor extending from Vatika Chowk to Ghata. Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the latter two phases are currently being prepared.
The Chief Minister also reviewed the proposed 2.26-km six-lane elevated corridor from Hero Honda Chowk to Umang Bharadwaj Chowk. The project, which will include service roads, is expected to be completed within 24 months of commencement. Utility shifting work is presently being carried out by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
Officials informed the Chief Minister that the SPR and Hero Honda elevated corridor projects would provide seamless, signal-free connectivity between the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and the Dwarka Expressway, significantly reducing travel time for commuters.
Saini also reviewed plans for additional elevated corridors in Old Gurugram to improve traffic flow in congested areas. He directed officials to expedite construction of the Sheetla Mata Medical College and Hospital, with civil works targeted for completion by December, and prepare for its early operationalisation.
Highlighting the need for sustainable urban development, the Chief Minister stressed strengthening the city’s drainage infrastructure, expanding rainwater harvesting systems, and creating large ponds and water-retention facilities in green belts to improve flood management and groundwater recharge.
