MCG intensifies action under GRAP, Issues 705 challans and collects ₹9.26 lakh fine

Gurugram: The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has stepped up enforcement measures to curb air pollution in the city, ensuring strict implementation of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

Demonstrating a zero-tolerance approach towards violations contributing to air and dust pollution, MCG teams have remained active round-the-clock across the city.

During the month of January so far, MCG has issued a total of 705 challans against violators involved in activities causing air pollution. Through these enforcement actions, the civic body has collected ₹9.26 lakh as penalties. Dedicated field teams have been deployed continuously to monitor pollution-related violations and take immediate action wherever norms are found to be flouted.

The municipal corporation is taking stringent steps against open burning, illegal dumping of garbage and debris in public places, and non-compliance with environmental norms at construction and demolition sites.

Offenders found indulging in such activities are being penalised on the spot, reinforcing MCG’s commitment to pollution control.
To mitigate dust pollution, MCG is regularly sprinkling treated water sourced from sewage treatment plants on roads and trees.

For this purpose, 10 vehicle-mounted sprinklers and anti-smog gun vehicles are being deployed across various roads. Additionally, water tankers are also being used to cover different parts of the city to suppress dust.

To ensure that major roads remain free from dust and debris, MCG is operating 18 mechanised sweeping machines during night hours, minimising inconvenience to commuters and residents during the day. Alongside this, sanitation teams are also carrying out regular manual cleaning operations on key roads.

MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya stated that controlling air pollution remains the corporation’s top priority. He emphasized that all GRAP guidelines are being implemented strictly and warned that firm action against violators will continue to ensure a clean, safe, and healthy environment for the citizens of Gurugram.
