Manesar : Municipal Corporation Manesar (MCM) Commissioner Pradeep Singh on Monday chaired a high-level meeting with officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC), Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and MCM to review measures for controlling air pollution.
The Commissioner issued strict directions, asking all departments to take immediate and concrete steps within their respective jurisdictions, stating that the Central Government is taking air pollution control very seriously.
Referring to a recent meeting chaired by Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, the Commissioner said that all departments have been directed to improve road conditions. According to the latest report of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), nearly 25 percent of air pollution is caused by road dust. Poorly maintained roads are a major source of dust pollution, adversely impacting air quality and posing serious health risks to the public.
Commissioner Singh instructed NHAI officials to ensure proper maintenance of service lanes, central verges and footpaths along the 13-kilometre stretch falling under the municipal corporation area. He made it clear that no negligence in cleanliness and repair work would be tolerated.
HSIIDC officials were directed to strictly regulate and scientifically manage hazardous waste generated by industries.
Emphasis was also laid on increasing green cover in IMT sectors by planting trees and grass along central verges and roadsides. The use of treated water from Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) for irrigation was made mandatory to promote sustainable water usage. Additionally, strict action was advised to prevent illegal parking on IMT sector roads, with buses and trucks to be parked only in designated parking areas or vacant plots.
GMDA officials were instructed to strictly follow environmental norms during road construction and maintenance activities. The Commissioner announced that air pollution review meetings will be held every month from next year and clarified that these directions will not remain on paper. All departments have been asked to submit an action taken report to the Commissioner’s office within 15 days.
