Clean-Up Drive in Gurugram: MCG issues 1,881 challans, collects Rs 31.89 lakh since Jan 2026

Gurugram: The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has intensified its enforcement drive against violations related to sanitation, environmental protection, and public health across the city. As part of this sustained campaign, the civic body has issued 1,881 challans since January 1, 2026, collecting a total fine of Rs 31.89 lakh. The action aims to make Gurugram cleaner, safer, and more organized.

According to MCG officials, the highest number of violations were recorded in cases related to illegal use of polythene. A total of 1,222 challans were issued for polythene usage, resulting in a fine collection of Rs 9.19 lakh. Additionally, 324 challans were issued for not using designated dustbins, with penalties amounting to Rs 1.62 lakh.

The corporation has also taken strict action against waste burning and improper disposal of construction debris. In 36 cases of open waste burning, fines worth Rs 1.80 lakh were imposed. For dumping construction and demolition (C&D) waste at public places, 57 challans were issued, generating Rs 13.05 lakh in penalties. Similarly, 32 cases of littering in public areas attracted fines totaling Rs 1.60 lakh.

Violations related to construction activities were also penalized. During restricted periods, 9 challans were issued for continuing construction work or violating norms, leading to a fine of Rs 1.70 lakh.

Moreover, 13 vehicles carrying construction material without proper covering were penalized, with fines amounting to Rs 65,000.

In matters of public hygiene, MCG issued 165 challans for open defecation, imposing a fine of Rs 8,250, and 4 challans for open urination, collecting Rs 2,000. Violations related to septage management resulted in 3 challans worth Rs 7,500, while 14 cases of water wastage attracted fines of Rs 1,900.

Action was also taken against bulk waste generators, with two cases fined Rs 50,000, reinforcing the need for waste segregation and management at the source.

MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said the corporation’s objective is not merely to collect fines but to instill a sense of civic responsibility among citizens. He emphasized that regular enforcement drives will continue against violators.

He appealed to residents, market associations, construction agencies, and institutions to comply with sanitation norms, plastic bans, proper waste management, covered transportation of construction material, and water conservation, stressing that public cooperation is essential to keep Gurugram clean and healthy.
