Gurugram: With the upcoming monsoon season in mind, the Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG) has taken a significant step to strengthen its preparedness and emergency response mechanisms by constituting a dedicated Monsoon Management Cell (MMC).
Formal orders in this regard have been issued by Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya. The newly formed cell will be responsible for planning, coordination, monitoring, and review of all monsoon-related arrangements, including waterlogging, drainage, sewerage, and other civic issues.
The Monsoon Management Cell has been constituted under the leadership of the Municipal Commissioner and includes senior officers and technical experts from the corporation.
Additional Municipal Commissioner-I Yash Jaluka has been appointed as the Member Secretary of the cell. Other key members include Additional Municipal Commissioner-III Ravindra Yadav, Chief Engineer Vijay Dhaka, all Executive Engineers, Assistant Engineers, and former CMGGA consultant Surbhi Sahu.
To further strengthen monsoon preparedness, consultant Surbhi Sahu has been attached to the Engineering Wing. Working under the supervision of Executive Engineer Pradeep Kumar, she will specifically focus on monsoon preparedness-related activities. The MMC will prepare a comprehensive Monsoon Preparedness Plan, which will include compilation and verification of records related to desilting, drain cleaning, and other monsoon-related civil works.
The cell will also assess and document the requirement and deployment of machinery during the monsoon season. A standard reporting format will be developed for monsoon monitoring and response, and minutes of MMC meetings will be systematically recorded. In addition, data from previous monsoon seasons will be analyzed to identify shortcomings, challenges, and areas for improvement in operational efficiency.
Municipal Commissioner Dahiya has directed that the first draft of the Monsoon Preparedness Plan be submitted by January 15, 2026, in both concise and detailed formats.
Apart from this, Surbhi Sahu has also been assigned responsibilities as a member of the Sewerage Management Cell (SMC). In this role, she will handle documentation, meeting records, analytical reports, and coordination work under the supervision of the Chief Engineer, MCG.
All reporting related to these initiatives will be made to the Chief Engineer, Municipal Corporation Gurugram. The orders have come into effect immediately. According to the Municipal Commissioner, this initiative will help effectively tackle waterlogging, sewerage overflow, and other civic problems during the monsoon, providing better relief to city residents.
